OUR MISSION
At POCHABHAI FOUNDATION, we are dedicated to empowering the future of children through education. We fisrt prepare the balmitras (home teachers) that will open their houses to the children of each village. Imparting classes from Monday to Saturday. They will not only teach them maths and english, but gujurati and hindi and give them self care tools. A meal for each child is also provided by his tutor. Without a school in the village these children would never have the opportunity to join a government school if they weren´t helped to read and write properly from an early age. A better education reinforced in there home towns every morning opens a whole new future for the dalit communities giving them equal opportunities to other children
BAL SANSKAR KENDRA PROJECT
Baal Sanskar Kendra project for the under-privileged children of Khambhat and Tarapur blocks of Anand district. The project was developed to address the issues of lack of affordable educational facilities, enhance learning through innovative methods, and promote basic writing and reading skills and to reduce drop-out rate. Moreover, children from remote villages are also unable to travel long distances to attend schools.
Reading and Writing
Improving reading writing and counting skills is essential
We began with an assessment called Vagle (Vanchan Ganan Lekhan), which helped the Balmitra to gauge the level of understanding about reading, writing and arithmetic among the children. Based on these results, classes and activities are devised to upgrade their skills. Through pictures, charts and alphabets, the children are taught to read and write. Wires, drawstrings and easily found objects are often used to enhance fast learning.
Reducing Social Inequality
One can shape the child the way you want. Through the project, we have made initiatives to bring together children from different communities and religions, so that they get ample opportunities to mingle, eat and play together. This helps them in forming a friendly behaviour and nurture love and respect for people from all caste and religion.
Increasing attendance
Organizing regular parents' meetings in their own villages and during which we discuss progress of the child, recommendations for improvement etc.
Our team visits school on a regular basis to monitor attendance.
In case if the drop out child is a girl, we visit parents and conduct counselling and make them understand the significance of studying further.
We have introduced low cost Teaching Learning Material (TLM) to make the sessions interesting and innovative.
Creative Abilities
Several hobby classes are created and included as a part of the curriculum at the Kendra. This included dance, drama, music, craft, and public speaking and so on. Saturday's are earmarked for games and extra curricular activities. During festivals, the children also perform in front of their families and friends as an integral part of the cultural activities.
Awareness of their rights
Rights and responsibilities are explained through practical examples, actual incidents or a hypothetical situation where they have to understand which right or responsibility has been violated. Similarly, constitutional knowledge is given in the form of stories and conversations.
Similarly environment related topics are discussed with the children and they are introduced to tree farming, organic farming, water conservation etc., so as to inspire them to make little changes in their surroundings.
Social Change Leaders
Life stories of social change leaders are shared with the children in an easy to understand way. This has helped in creating a vivid image of the leaders in the young minds. To further make them remember the leaders, birthdays, anniversaries and achievement days of the leaders are also celebrated. And these celebrations are done through various competitions like speech, drama, mono act, dance and so on.
